Get The Most Out Of Your Rice

Rice water has long been used not just by Korea, but by Japan and China as well, as a facial cleanser. With the Asian diet always consisting of rice, rice water is never in short supply. Rice water contains all sorts of natural minerals that slow your skin’s aging process and helps give your skin that extra bit of snap. So, the next time you cook some rice, here’s how you can save the rice water to give your skin that Korean-style glow.

How To Collect Rice Water

Boiling Rice Water

When cooking rice, you want to use a lot more water than you typically might for this method. Cook the rice as you typically would except use about 3-4 times more water than rice so you have a lot of water leftover. After the rice is done cooking, gently press the rice to release the rest of the nutrients. Then, strain the water out and store it in your refrigerator. You will have about one week to use it before its properties no longer work, so be sure to use it every day.

While this is a simple method, it is not our favorite. The best rice to cook with is typically dry rice as rice that is too wet gets soggy. However, if you plan on making a Korean-style breakfast of jook, then this method is one you may want to check out.

Soaking the Rice

This is the easiest method and goes with whatever method you have of cooking rice. This is because you can collect the water before you even start cooking. After you wash your rice, let the rice soak in water for about 30 minutes. Then, press the rice as you would if you boiled it and then collect the rest of the rice water. Store the rice water in a refrigerator for up to seven days.

This process does add an extra 30 minutes to whatever it is you’re cooking. But, it is a more versatile way to cook whatever meal you want and still be able to get the all-natural benefits of rice water. If you have some time to spare, let your rice soak while you relax.

Fermenting Rice

Alright, so fermented anything isn’t bound to have the most pleasant of smells. But, if you know anything about Korean, then you know one of their favorite methods of preparing food is fermentation. So, why not fermented face care? To do this, simply soak the rice as you would above. Then instead of refrigerating the rice water, let it sit in a jar over the course of two days. Once you notice that signature fermented sour smell, then you’ll know it’s ready for use. You may want to use some water to help dilute the mixture before use.

How To Apply Rice Water To Your Face

Apply a dab of rice water onto a cotton pad. Then, apply the rice water as you would with any other toner or facial cleanser. Gently apply the rice water by rubbing your face in small circles. The trick here is to massage the water into your pores to let your face soak in all the minerals of the rice water. If you are simply applying it as a cleanser, you can rinse it off. Or, you can leave it on for the rest of the night to get the most out of the rice water.

How Often Should You Apply Rice Water To Your Face

You should apply rice water about two times a day. Once in the morning and once at night. Since it is all-natural, if you want to sleep and leave the rice water on your face, it is perfectly safe to do so. In fact, you will get the most out of the rice water if you leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning.

How Green Tea is Good For Your Body and Your Face

Green tea is another staple to any proper Asian household. It is no secret that green tea is good for your health, so it only makes sense that it will also be good for your skin. Any type of green tea bag will work for a green tea facial cleansing, but if you want to use authentic Korean green tea then look for nok-cha, 녹차.

Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and other nutrients that are perfect for treating your skin. It also helps with reducing the amount of oil your face produces. For those who are looking to get rid of their acne, a green tea cleansing is going to be the Korean facial cleansing method you check out first.

How To Prepare a Green Tea Mask

After making a cup of green tea, remove the teabag and open it up. It is alright to let it cool down before. However, it is important to use ONLY the tea leaves and none of the other ingredients that may be in the bag.

Place the green tea leaves in a bowl and mix them together with either honey or aloe vera gel. If you prefer a mask that is thinner, you can add a few splashes of water to help thin it out.

How To Apply a Green Tea Mask

After cleansing your face, apply the green tea face mask by gently massaging it onto your face or the acne-problem areas. The important part is that it is applied evenly.

Leave it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.

How Often Should You Use a Green Tea Face Mask

For the best results, apply the green tea mask two times a week. While the green tea mask is great to aid in exfoliating, using it too much will irritate your skin. There is a bit of trial and error though.

Those with sensitive skin may find that using it only once a week works best. Those who have tough skin may be able to use it three times a week. Ultimately, it all comes down to what works best for you, but, on average, two times a week works best for most people.

Ginseng

All Koreans know that if they are ever sick then ajumma will always be there with a pouch of ginseng. And why wouldn’t she? Ginseng has great health benefits and can serve as a natural remedy to cure common illnesses. Now you can take the same nutrient-rich root and apply it to your face for surprising results.

What’s So Great About Ginseng?

Inside this small, odd-looking plant protruding with roots is an absolute powerhouse of nutrients and minerals. Where to even begin? There are saponins, sugar, vitamins B1, B2, and B3, minerals, and much more that we couldn’t even begin to describe. So powerful is ginseng that it’s been used for thousands of years by early Chinese civilization. It’s a powerful root and using it as part of your facial cleansing routine is sure to bring you benefits.

A ginseng facial cleanse is great for increasing blood circulation which helps treat wrinkles. The skin will also become more firm and aid in the prevention of skin cancer. Gingseng will also give your skin a more natural glow. One of the best things about ginseng is that it is perfect for those with sensitive skin.

How To Prepare And Apply A Ginseng Facial Cleanse

Preparing a ginseng face mask is simple and easy to do. All you need to do is dissolve one ginseng tea bag in hot water as you would any tea. Let it cool off and use a cotton pad to apply it gently to the face. Make sure to massage it into the pores. Afterward, wash it off with warm water then apply your favorite moisturizer.
